A heavily debated Case in the past:

I know jabs, it's nothing personal believe Me. The XX patterned Case of Your subject and of those You have listed has been fiercely debated on site in the past, My convictions remain.

I'm not certain of where this ad originates but the Fish engraving pattern and Chevrons' on the Case ends of the Bulova 'SKY KING' are clearly visible.

Vintage ad Dated July 1932.

So the theory is, the post 1931 ads are a misprint of some kind, and show a different model by virtue of the 'X' pattern? Or is it possible the engraving simply changes, but the model remains the same? Unless I'm missing something, it's the engraving that is the only difference.

Reverend,

The engraving patterns, or lack of, on vintage Bulova are a major factor in their identification.

Yes, to make a long story short the current theory is that the engraving pattern of the 'SKY KING' changed at some point. Yet We have advertisements, several of them actual Bulova Watch Company ads (not jeweler ads from a newspaper) depicting the 'SKY KING' as having Fish patterned engraving and chevron details at each Case end dated 1930 through 1934.

The similarly shaped yet XX pattern Cases seem to be Dated 1931 and 1932.

The 'SKY KING' was a new model in 1930.

( meaning the current theory does not work )

This entire dilemma began Years ago when some astute individual placed an XX pattern Case into a 'SKY KING' box.

Thread in the forums.

The Bulova 'SKY KING' is a Historically significant piece, it's Our moral duty as Bulova Watch enthusiasts to get it right. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maddux_Air_Lines  Buckle up, I have a feeling this is going to be a bumpy ride.

I have no problem own not identified watch, but before I buy something I pass a available advert and pieces in our database, and this one also has a "xx" engraving http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1931-sky-king-5549

and what you say about this advert

jabs,

I would say the same as with the ad below.

*note the 'LONE EAGLE'

Correct description, wrong image.

ad Dated May 1933 - Fish and Chevrons.
