Hi Blake, welcome to myBulova. This is the watch that launched a thousand ad campaigns, it's a 1929 Bulova Lone Eagle. The shield on the movement and serial number leading with a 9 would classify it as 1929. I suspect that the dial might not be original to the watch as the perimeter is slightly irregular but it's a Lone Eagle all the same- Thanks for sharing it.

Hi All,

Thank you for your kind welcomes.

I’m sorry I had marked it as 1929 and then I must have changed it in my clumsiness. Please amend as I am not sure i can once published.

thank you for your comments and insight, I had hoped it was one of the series 2 lone eagles, I love the deco style and would like to use as a daily wearer.

Any thoughts on a nice (slightly less formal than black) strap combination would be most welcome or other advice when using daily.

The dial is an interesting one isn’t it, I see lots of slightly different variations - I queried there being no 6 at first but then saw others, some have Swiss at the bottom. Did they amend the dials during the production run? It appears to be the right age - what other model would you suggest it could be from?

I was debating what to do with the dial - is it criminal to redial? I love the old dial but have a slight niggling feeling as radium was used and no risk is preferable for me with young family.

Is it possible to tell how early a series 2 it is? Would you need the movement serial or the case?

thank you, i am exited to start wearing this one and I intend to collect more bulovas in the future.

Kind regards

James Blake

I think a nice vintage pig skin strap would look awesome on it, traditional tan or black, either would look great.

As for whether to redial or not there are two camps on the subject and it is really a personal preference.  If you are concerned about the radium I don't see any harm in getting it redialed so you can enjoy wearing it worry free.

I'm in the redial camp when the dial isn't that great. A little pertina is perfectly fine for my, but where is distracts from the visual attractiveness of the watch I'm all for redial, or even just a simple clean.

They made a great many of this version over the two or so years of production and there were variantions to the dial and movement to keep up with supply I suspect.

100% all Bulova Lone Eagle.

Take the watch to a shop that sells leather watch straps and try a few. You'll know which one suits your taste as soon as you see it.
