So this is in really fantastic. I totally thought wow... maybe someone just had this refurbished. But as I was taking pictures I looked closely at the back. Then inside the case back wilhich may be the most pristine I've ever seen on a watch this old. The dust cover is pristine with almost zero age. The movement is pristine.
I almost feel like it could be an NOS watch from the late 1920's?
Hands are cathedral rather than spade.
Trojan or Conqueror?
What I find most interesting is that the serial number seems to either 1931 or an older style of numbering were we see the second number determine the year. Between 1922 and 1926 we have a number of watches in the database that have the case serial number starting with "1" followed by the year of manufacture. My theory has always been that the first case number in the very early watches indicated the factory where it was made and the second number the year of production.
I think that this is the case with this watch, as we are not seeing this case style continue into 1931. The Cyrano which has a similar case with enamelled corners and dates to 1930, but nothing past that.
So based on the movement date code, the movement serial number AND the second digit in the serial number being a "7" I agree with it being 1927.
I think that this is an early 1927 watch, and we have two 1927 adverts that show this watch as both the Trojan and Conqueror.
The Conqueror advert however is date December 1927, whilst there are a number of earlier adverts showing this watch as the Trojan.
So after all that...what Geoff said....1927 Bulova Trojan (damn he good!!)
