Telemetre Watch

Submitted by bobbee on June 13, 2012 - 3:53pm

Got this a few months ago and forgot about it. No date anywhere. Movement is an ETA 2824-2, with 25 jewels. Case measures 36mm. W/O crown, 45mm. lug to lug, 18mm. lug gape. Hands and numbers are gilt. From top to bottom on the dial are the words "Telemetre, BULOVA, Automatic, Swiss Made". Case shows areas of bad corrosive gilt loss on the back, but only slight rubbing on the lugs. Since cleaning crud off of the hairspring it keeps excellent time.

Now for the $64,000 question, boys and girls. Is it, or Isn't it?

So the case back is clear....interesting.  The movement is unknow to me.  Leaning towards "isn't it".  Almost falling in that direction actually.

Not a Bulova signed movement?

No sigs, no dates. The dial looks like plastic to me, possible "hommage", or Hong Kong Bully. Although the caseback is a good fit, it could be a replacement.

I would run it by Bulova corporate to see if they have any info on it.  Can't hurt to try.

You may want to pull the dial and see how it is attached. If it's made for the movement or whether it is just stuck on.

*EDIT* Sorry, forgot about the date window so it is probably for that movement.

The caseback is typical of a salesman's display model. The see through back was used to show the movement without having to remove the back. Nice Watch!

Checked the dial. Copper base, very shiny paint job, that's why I thought it was plastic.

Possibly, Shawn. Certainly is a hard surface, and if it is, why do that to a modern watch, with an unsigned movement? I think the dial and movement belong together, but is possibly a re-case.

Well, I'm only guessing but ceramic would certainly be more durable if it were a salesman's demo piece.

If it was re-cased it's still a fine looking watch.
