Can anyone identify this watch

Submitted by Due North on February 18, 2012 - 10:38pm

Sorry for the poor photo.  Do not have any tools to open watch back.

It says it is self winding and the dial is divided into four pie shaped pieces.

Any help would be appreciated.

The back is engraved 1955.

Thank you in advance

David

Can't ID what I can't see. Take some more pics and we can all see what you have.

If it's the Watch I am thinking of it remains an 'UNKNOWN'. The ones I have seen are Dated 1953 - '55, Nautically inspired (?) and are 21 Jewel Automatics w Gold Casebacks.

That is the watch!  Thanks.  I just picked it up at a swap meet.  It is in pretty good shape, just needs a cleaning and some dial repairs.

Thanks again for your help.

3 confirmed by advertisements JP.

'ACADEMY AWARD'

'CLIPPER'

'EXCELLENCY'

* as a side note the 'Shadow Dial' will change position or flip flop based on light orientation - a detail impossible to reproduce by the Dial refinishers.
