Harringtom? Ivanhoe? Maybe the case. but....

So I got this watch.  I check the ads but to no avail.  Case is L3.  I look through 1953/54 watches and discussions, finding Harrington and Ivanhoe for the case.  But the crystal.  And the diamond dial.  Then I open case and the 17J 8AE movement is from 1947.  O well.  I don't know these dials by model or year(s) at all! I can only say this watch was cobbled together after 1953..and that didn't require much research on my pary :)  Now what do I do.  Is it worthy of entry into the database?

...then that crystal....

...change that....Case back is L6 not L3...so now a nine year spread at minimum for some owner/jeweler to through together a cool looking watch....

Hrmm.... well.  Good news is the case is Bulova.  The movement is Bulova.  The dial... is not Bulova.  The dead giveaway on this dial being aftermarket is the "17 Jewels" being where it is.

As far as I know, Bulova never had that on any of it's production dials.  Though we've seen it on several aftermarket dials.

I'm sure what you have here is a 1953 Bulova.... whose movement crapped out and a watchmaker had that '47 8AE laying around.... puts an aftermarket dial on it... and wallah!  Fixed!

I don't know brother... it's up to you... what you want to do with it.   If it was me I might wait on putting it in the database.  Or if you do... put it in as the Ivanhoe or Harrington with a full explaination about the dial/movment being not original to the case.

The FrankenBully polling ended in a 50/50 draw so the jury is still out on adding it to that category.

I tend to agree with Plains....hold off until you can add it as a  fully fledged Ivanhoe.

I doubt if it will ever be an Ivanhoe w/o some changes....so I'll just hold out.  I'll figure out what to do with it.....:) but I know that misrepresentation is, for me anyway, just lying by omission.
