Just arrived today purchased here in Brisbane Australia.
From what I found here it looks like the first Lone Eagle movement 17j 10AN S/N 225751
comes with a broken hinge case JAN 11, 1927 8338288 (1928)

Hi Sparhawk, I'm glad the watch went to a fellow Aussie. I know the seller and have seen the watch in person.
What I will do is update the watch record and place in your account name, then if you want you can update new photos (via [email protected]) and discuss the various points of restoring the watch, which I can probably help you with as I live in Canberra and have parts (except the case).

I would not worry about the hinged case too much. Its a selling point and that's all it really is. Now there is a clear plastic piece amber colored or clear that fits directly over the bottom of the movement and the inside case Movement holder. Call it a dust cover, Much of the time they are missing...
Funny I just watched The Spirit of St Louis movie and found myself freezing frames looking a Jimmy Stewarts" watch. We would all love to know what exact watch he wore on his NY-Paris flight.. anyone know?
The tag line Lone Eagle came out the press of the day and something Charles never attached himself to.
Congrats, beautiful watch

There is some footage of Lindbergh suiting up just prior to jumping into the SoSL. When he did wear a watch he wore it on his left wrist (common). If you look at the original footage, there is no suggestion that he is wearing any watch and some history books notes that he took his fathers (or grandfathers) pocket watch, however Lindbergh hisself never confirm this...or did he?
Either way we do know that Bulova sent Lindbergh a Conqueror model pre flight, as they did with all the pilots attempting the flight. He was also presented with another Bulova by Arde Bulova aboard the USS Memphis upon his return to the US post flight (what we believe was a President model). There is even a few more Bulova wrist and pocket watches that were sent to Lindbergh post flight from various organisations, congratulating him on his flight,
I have a similar hinge problem and I also went to see a jeweller to see if it could be fixed. I was advised if the case had of been solid gold they could have fixed it, but as it's gold filled there was no chance. The hinge still works and the case still closes. It was a common issue with these tri-fold cases.
