Why does my Super Seville dial show this?

Submitted by JeRM on June 11, 2020 - 11:20pm

Omg this webpage just refreshed and erased everything I just typed. Infuriating!

Not typing it again...

In short - why does my recently purchased Super Seville have a numerical value next to the days? Was the day dial replaced perhaps or do all the models vary?

Hi there, not sure why the page refreshed, it should not do that.

The image did not show in your original post because it was pointing to a web page and not an actual image. Thus the iste could not render your image.

The 'link. above does however work correctly.

The "Day" wheel has index numbers that correspond to the day of the week (Saturday=6). I suspect the wheel has slipped and/or not advanced properly.

So showing the numerical value is an option, but not a necessity?

I could have the dial adjusted by someone with the expertise to show only the day in the window?

There are two discs, the day disc and the date disc. I have seen this before on other day/date models, and I never thought much about it. There is no 'adjustment' for this, the teeth on the day disc automatically centre the day in the guichet, or window. I'm Canadian, so I might be wrong about this, but it might be a European thing, to have the days of the week numbered? I have seen this also on some of the earlier date models as well. Bi-lingual day/date watches can be adjusted to show one or the other of the two spellings or abbreviations, but there is no incremental adjustment to further move the positioning.

If you advance the hands past midnight, and both the day and date change crisply, that means they are working as they should. There might be replacement day discs still around for this that do not have the numbers. Maybe somebody not from North America can comment on this.

I just received the Super Seville and my jaw almost dropped at how good of shape it is in. There are no scratches or blemishes on the case or crystal from what I noticed quickly scanning it over.

I have a watch kit to change links and batteries and make adjustments. I’ll need to pop the back to find the alpha-numeric code on the inside to determine what decade it is from.

All I can off of now are two serial #s on the outer back case.

Here is a Rado Manhattan with the same feature, albeit different layout:
