Repair enamel inlay in vintage watch

Submitted by Deafboy on March 19, 2020 - 10:27am

Hello Everyone,

I have a vintage Bulova Deauville/Lady Lindy where some of the vitreous enamel inlay is missing. Esslinger sells a material for the purpose of replacing the inlay called Ceramit but I hear it is difficult to obtain good results. Do you have suggestions for the repair?

I have not used this but I am sure if you follow the instructions you will get acceptable results.  Keep us updated.

Might sound silly, but I have used model aircraft enamel paint with some success before. You buy them in those small tins. Worth a try and does not cost the earth.

I had a watch once that was repaired with this material you mention. It did not look as smooth as real enamel. I suspect that's the difficulty you mention. I have used the enamel paint Stephen refers to touch up the bezels on Accutron Astronaut watches as well as the Snorkels, it's VERY effective. I suggest trying it first as it can be easily removed with thinner if you don't like the result. Make sure you use the gloss black variety. It's also relatively easy to wipe off when you go out of the area you're repairing.

Yep had the same experience with being able to remove easily if I didn't like it or needed to remove any exess.
