Dear dougindoors57, your watch is the 156 and was later called the Minerva, although we only have one ad confirming that of 19 December 1924 from a jeweler called R.L. Reese in the Corsicana Daily Sun. The case of your watch with a serial number starting with 12 is from around 1923, while the movement with the square date code is from 1927 and thus probably a replacement. This happens more often. Since the movement is a replacement, I would classify your watch according to the date of the case, being 1923 and therefore call the watch: 156.

I agree with Alex's comments. Case is 1922/23 era. Typically we might ID this as non conforming but I'm happy with Model 156

Hello doug, welcome to myBulova. I like your Bulova a lot. I still get confused on the gold content of these old cases and how it relates to model ID. Deferring to the experts I'll go along with the 156 ID as well.

Thanks all, I will get some pictures up soon, new to the collecting lark, but have got the bug.

Wondering why the gold content has been scratched out. You'd think that if any part was to be scratched out it would be the word 'Filled'.

Is it 14K Gold Filled or another number like 18 or 19?

Now thinking it might actually be the Bulova '155', which is the Gold Filled version of the solid gold 156 version. Advert indicates 18K, but it may have extended to all Gold Filled versions.

Panel - I think Stephen is right about the 155 ID based on gold content - any other thoughts?
