Bulova 11ACC project watch needs a male 1/2 and crown to split stem

Submitted by levine98 on June 26, 2022 - 6:24pm

Hi,

My first post in this forum--hoping someone can help me finish a project watch I picked up on eBay about a month ago.

The movement is a "11ACC" which according to the pink pages a derivative of the 10BOAC.

I've been able to get the movement running acceptably by just giving it a good service (cleaning and lubrication). Was able to reuse the mainspring as well. From what I can tell, the watch had never been serviced, so pretty happy with how that went.

Next challenge is reassembling it with a new crystal and proper crown. I should be able to get a standard GS crystal for this watch from one of the US supply houses. However having trouble making out where to secure the male 1/2 with crown the two-piece stem--this is where I can use some help. If anyone on the forum knows the proper part number and/or where I can score one please PM me.

Thanks in advance!

Congrats on getting it running again. I will say that the crystal could turn out to be hard to get one that fits correctly. I've always had problems getting one that both fits well enough to tightly hold down the movement ring on the inside and also just the right thickness to fit with the case when pressed together. I've broken a few trying to get them to press together. If you know the watch model, you may be able to identify the original crystal through this page - 1950s Waterproof Crystal Catalog. My guess is that you have a Storm King A or B, which calls for the 1126E crystal. GS brand cross-references this crystal with their PA 447. I'm not certain of the watch model you have, but that may be correct.

As for the stem and crown, I'm not exactly understanding if you need both of these or if you already have them but need to figure out how to re-assemble?

Hi, thanks for the reply, very helpful. I need to acquire the male 1/2 of the stem and a crown. I have the female half. I'll look in to the crystal tomorrow when I get back online. Normally I'd be able to polish the old one well enough to use it but this one is cracked along the edges.

There are a few different sizes or lengths for the male stem portion. The Bulova part is either the 16B/16BF/16BH or 16W. There is a 1.16mm, 2.25mm and a 3.93mm. The mm is the length of the shoulder. Compatible stems in both lengths can be found on the 10BMC, 10BPAC, 10BUC, 11AB, 11AC movements. I couldn't say which length is correct for your case tube or how to properly measure it. It would be a trial and error situation for me.

This chart lists the 16W, but in another interchangeable parts book it lists the 16B sets for this movement. I would think either work.

Crowns for this movement include: 307, 307B, 3114. I'm not sure which crown is the correct fit for this case; again, sort of trial and error, but likely the 307.

This is super info. I'm heading to McCaw supply tomorrow since I happen to be passing through Toledo. This info is invaluable -- thanks.

BTW what document / catalog does this info come from?

You should look for an assorted male / female POST kit.   I think I got mine from Esslingers.   They are invaluable to have laying around as post are not really movement dependent, just the stem.

I was able to source what I needed on eBay (2.25mm male post). Thanks for all of the help.
