Watch Description

This watch has the 'O' on the inside of the case. It is an American Standard Case 14K white gold. I have noted a date based on the case. I have seen a watch like this in a 1923 advertisement on your website. I want to know the value or if I should sell it for melt. It runs, but probably needs to be cleaned and look at by a reputable watch repair person. The case is monogramed on the back. I have taken the best photos I can.

Welcome to myBulova and thank you for sharing your watch with us.  Like this one https://mybulova.com/watches/1922-156-5407?page=1

We do not give values on this site because there are too many variables, condition, collectability, current market, etc.  You can search ebay to see what 14k watches have recently sold for to get a rough idea of current value.  Personally, I would love to see you try to sell to collectors first so it has a chance to go to a collection instead of being melted down.

Dear SAGG, your watch is a wonderful example of the early 156 from 1922. Whatever the melting value, you will always manage to get a higher price from a collector for such a wonderful piece of history.

Thank you for the information. I have no idea how to price this item. If a collector is willing to buy it, that would be nice.

That is an early one and a real beauty that's worth more than melt. Do some research on eBay completed auctions of similar size, gold K, running condition and age.

1922 Bulova 156 looks to be a good match.  And a nice example at that.

What about a 1923 956.

Case engraving is very different from the common 156 we see.

Looking a little closer at this model.

In April 1923 is was known as the 956,in June it changed to 156 and then in December 1924 (possibly earlier) is was fiuanlly named Minerva.

1924 Bulova 155, 156, Minerva watch advert.

With hand and early movement, I'm leaning towards the earlier version, thus 1923 Bulova 956

Not my field of expertise; so I will go with the research by someone who is better informed. Based on confirmed dates and ads, I'll agree subject watch is more likely the early version and therefore I'll change my vote to

Stephen, I think you are right, it does look like the 956!  I think that is what you meant, not 954, right?

Thanks Kathy, I did indeed mean a 956.  I've corrected my post.
