Watch Description

Any information on this watch would be appreciated. I recently had to empty my fathers house and found this in a draw. I have never seen it before so have no idea of its history yet, though I will ask the rest of the family if they know anything.

Welcome to myBulova and thank you for sharing your father's watch with us.  Condolences and it is tough going through a parent's house but it is a comfort to receive some of their treasures to have and hold.  I recently had to do the same for my mother and it was comforting putting one of her rings on and looking at it daily.  I hope you enjoy wearing this watch in memory of him.

I looked at the line books and didn't find an exact match yet.  They do not have individual names at this point but I would say it is an Accutron Date & Day.

Wow I have almost the same story with mine lol actually it's a similar watch too but I can't find a single watch that has the insignias on it and all the gold. It says it's 14k and 10k. I'm afraid to try and open it, sometimes I don't know my own strength and break things lol if anyone would be interested in walking me through it I'd feel a little better.

I had a really good look but also couldn't find a match, but is a base 1975 Bulova Accutron Date & Day.

Agreed this is a 1976 Accutron Date & Day.   Always remember the battery goes in upside down.  Get it serviced and you will absolutely love this watch.   The movement is the most accurate movement and it hums due to the tuning fork movement.   Nothing like them and remember what the ad in Madmen said.... ACCUTRON - Its not a time piece, its a conversation piece.

I still get chills.

Remember, the Mad Men show did this piece WITHOUT the knowledge of Bulova. Bulova was as surprised as the rest of us when we first saw it!

ALERT: Nice 218-2 (DAY-DATE) I think this is the true "hack" movement.

REMOVE that battery ASAP. There looks to be leakage around the negative seal. The battery cavity will need to be cleaned out. Ultrasonically is best. Then a fresh #344 battery installed Positive side down. Humming does not mean working... push stem in watch second hand and minute-hour hands for proper rotation. When I see potential problems, I report them. Crystal is fogged needs replacement or pro polishing. I really don't know why Bulova case insides had instructions. In the day the old Mercury 218 Cells were used and sold by Bulova. Unscrewing the battery retainer and battery replacement required a Jeweler / watchmaker. I find that holds true today. Any dust, I mean a tiny invisible to the naked eye particle gets into your tuning forks, your watch will stop.

Nice example 218 Day Date Stainless N-6
