1977 Set O Matic Diver 666 Bezel

Submitted by JimDon5822 on August 31, 2020 - 5:04pm

I picked up this 1977 diver recently.  It has a 1133.10 movement that was missing parts but is running now and I just need a bezel.   It appears this came with the Pepsi bezel with the red to 15 seconds.  I picked up a NOS bezel on Ebay.  It is part #BT/857W 1-Turning bezel Group 6.    This one is a Pepsi also but to 20 seconds.   It came with the spring and bezel insert for $60 and I had a $25 coupon so I jumped on it.  I figure if I cant use it someone else here might.   That being said anyone know the part number for this watch bezel and the watch for NOS bezel that I picked up?

This is what I found on the line books that seem to be the closest match.

Looks like a match to me. Do you have the case reference number. We might be able to find the correct bezel ring for this beauty.

I can't find any other reference number than the N171.  The case back is marked Hong Kong on the inside along with the N-171.

Well the bezel came in and it was too large for this watch.  Back to the drawing board.  Let me know if you have a need for a bezel.

I found a case, dial and bezel for sale on ebay.   I should be good.  I will post it when I get it back together.

Well I received the case and bezel today and low and behold it does not fit.  They seller sent me the exact same case as me along with this dial.  It is the correct diameter but the bezel channel is recessed and the bezel sits atop the case.  Therefore the tension spring cannot reach down to the tension ring channel.  It is as if there is a missing gasket that or part that would sit in the channel.  Does anyone have one of these that can show me what the bezel should look like or how it attached to the watch.    The bezel looks correct in all other ways.  Thanks

Hey! I have this exact watch but I'm having a devil of a time finding anything out about it - did you ever get any more info on it?

I have not been able to find the correct bezel.   They are few and far between.   That being said it is a 1977 set o matic diver. You are lucky to have it as the prices of these keep escalating.

I have the same watch that I purchased new in 1978 prior to a trip to the Bahamas. I still have the original box, display case, paperwork and receipt for $79.50 + tax. The original MSRP was $99.95 as marked on the box along with the model #11677-W, Men's 17j SS Auto. Day/Date. Thought you would find this info' interesting.

I am also looking for a replacement bezel as mine is "ghosted" on the red portion and is dinged as well. Has anyone found a source for these bezels or will the insert from another manufacturer fit, or possibly someone that does restorations on dials or bezels. I wonder if these can be restored using computer graphics and modern laser printing technology?

Hi Dave - while we do specialize in helping people identify old Bulova watches we are not exactly experts on the methods required to recreate the bezel on your watch. Perhaps another watch forum could be of assistance. There certainly are dial restoration companies out there but I have not seen a bezel restored.
