Watch Description

Hello,

This is a tricky one.  I have found ads for two different names in the same year.  Both in the DB and on newspapers.  It is either the Beverly or the Colette.

A bit bummed that the case came with a broken lug that I wasn't expecting.  I am looking into getting it repaired by a laser welder.

The case is 14K gold filled.  The case serial # and the movement date stamp are 1928, as are the ads going up to 1930 or so.  Looks like it came with two dial variations.  This one and the other that is in the DB under Collette.  The movement is a 5AP working 15 jewel movement with a 1928 cresent moon date stamp.

This is a pretty little watch with the black enamel and flower inlay and etched case.  It also has a pretty flower crown.  The band must be a replacement but also matches really well with matching flower design.

I am leaning toward Beverly only because the other two in the DB have the other dial and are in as Collette but either look to be correct.  Look forward to hearing what you think.  Thanks.

Both 1928 ads for Beverly and Colette.  Full ads in the post.

What a cute little watch Kathy, I really like these 1920's models. I'm inclined to Beverly for three reasons. The dial on Colette is ambiguous, the Beverly advert is dated the Colette advert is not so I'm certain Beverly is a 1928 name. And finally there was this girl I used to date.....oh, nevermind, there's really only the two reasons.

Quite possibly it comes down to the year of release.

1928 Bulova Beverly, as per the subject watch and 1929 Bulova Colette as per this exmaple on watchophilia.

I've checked my originals and can confirm that both adverts are dated 1928.

The Bulova Beverly advert is dated 14 April 1928

Bulova Beverly watch 14 April 1928

The Bulova Colette advert is dated 15 December 1928

Bulova Colette watch 15 December 1928

Both from official full page Saturday Evening Post adverts.

Kathy did you buy yours in April or December?     :-)

The Colette continues on into 1929, with the dial changing to be round in shape as shown in the November 16 1929 advert.

We might never know the cut over date unless we can find an advert between April and December 1928 showing one of the two model names.

Thank you Stephen for getting those out and checking that.  I have noticed on newspapers that they seem to advertise the next years models in December quite often.  I did copy what I could find on both names and it was Beverly through November 1928 and then goes to Colette in 1929 for those.  These are both from Nov 23, 1928, the Lansing State Journal and the Spokane Chronicle.
