Astronaut "Mark I (AKA Deep Sea 666 feet World Time Zone)
We have this other image of the watch in the DB. This is from a 1973 Swiss ad.
As can be seen on close inspection, there are some words above the "6" position, but very hard to see.
They would be equally as hard to see in the catalogue image, but maybe they are there.

Another thing, has anyone noticed the distinct similarities between the "Deep Sea "A", and the subject's dials? Layout is almost identical. Very different to any Astronaut dial I've seen, or yet to see.
Cases look identical too.
To look at this in another way, is it a Deep Sea model?
I think "YES".
If so, can it also be an Astronaut model?
I think "NO", as they were two distinct model lines. None of the Astronauts seen in any other advert has the "Deep Sea 666 feet" on the dial.
This model has what is known by all watch collectors as a "world time" bezel, so what would it be known as?
We have an exact match ad Bob. For the guy that fought so passionately for one 'newspaper' ad to BE RIGHT ( Lone Eagle), I find it odd that you dismiss this one so passionately as being wrong or a misprint. It is true that collectors the world around still refer to a certain Accuton as a "Woody" or a certain Chronograph as the "Stars and Stripes" but we know that Bulova called them something different, and so should we.
I did not find just one Lone Eagle 3 newspaper ad Geoff, I found four. I found the advert in question too, so why am I so anti?

I have no quibble with the advert image, just the name. We have never seen an ad for the "Stars and Stripes" or the "Woody", because those are nicknames.
The catalogue shows us a matching watch with the name in English in a Swiss language cat, so it is not mentioning a feature, but the watch name, not a nickname!
Yes, we should call them by the name Bulova did.
The ad mistakes have been pointed out with this one, there are other "name" mistakes in the full advert from which the MK1 snippet is taken, and the description in the snippet in no way goes as far as other descriptions in the full ad, no mention of the depth rating or complications, or even it's world time bezel, which is strange as it is a major novel feature of the watch, unseen on any Bulova before.
You would think an advert would "big it up" to help sales, no?
I'm learning a lot from this thread, but not enough to make an ID call yet. I have to re-read. Looks like there's enough panel (and other) members who have done their homework on this one.
An ID can always be made without my vote. We don't need an exact consensus number of voters to make an ID, especially if it's a "tentative" two tick ID.
