Watch Description

I believe this is a Bulova Princine Ladies watch.

The case is different from the other Princine's in the DB due to some engraving arches on the back of the case.

The case has the Case numbered beginning with a 1 however, the movement 6TA is from 1924 - 1929.

Then how about the 16 cases? They never have  1926 movements.

I see we have 3 in the database, which I now suspect should be listed as 1926.

The movemments may indicate 1925, but the case would indicate 26.

Thus the theory needs to extent to 1926.

just my thoughts on my watch:

In the DB, under  1924 Princine,  this watch  looks just like my watch.

https://mybulova.com/watches/1924-princine-3526

Both my watch and the listed 1924 Princine in DB has:

1)  "6TA" movement,

2) 16 Jewel movement,

3)  Same engraving on front (face) and sides,

4)  The back engraving is same,  except my watch has a center engraving.

My watch has no date code stamped on the movement, the 1924 Princine has one.

So, either both watches are the 6511,  or both are the Princine??? OR both are UNKNOWN due to the 16 Jewel movement.

Additional notes:

1.  Both Adverts for 6511 and Princine have 15 Jewels, not 16 Jewels.

2.  From Watchophilia it states that the 6TA has 16 jewels, 15 jewels isn't listed.

Dear TexasLady, welcome to the research team, haha. You will find many puzzles.

The watch you linked to is actually also a 6511. It was probably identified at a time we still didn’t have the 6511 ad. The 6TA are only found in 16 and 17 jewels so far. As admin indicated, 16 jewels was a common thing around 1924 and 1925 but never advertised as such. The 6TA’s have an asterisk as from serial number 14,000 and a circle as from around 40,000. Given your serial number of around 30,000 it must be from 1924 but for unknown reasons was not stamped.

Alex remember that movement dates don't neccessarily always indicate the year the watch was produced and sold to the public, it's simply the year the movement was manufactured and assembled in Switzerland.

The year of 'full' assembly of the watch; movement, case, dial, hands and band, usually came later that same year or the next.

Here we have a case serial number starting with a '15'. We know it's not 1921 nor 1931, and we have previously established that the second number can indeed indicate the year of maunfacture for the case.

I'm still at 1925 Bulova 6511

My comment above was purely related to the movement. Not the case.

With respect to the case, I am aware of the hypotheses around the second digit being the year. In a separate message to the board I will present some statistics on 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 cases, based on a sample of 120 watches.
