Watch Description

Hello,  This is a recent purchase I made primarily for the charm.  The watch was listed as not working and the back of the case has been polished to the point that you can barely make out the Bulova under a loupe.  The inside of the case has only swirls and service marks so I am unable to know for sure if it is solid or gold filled.  The movement is stamped L5.  The charm is lovely and is stamped 10K and Dieges & Custer.  The watch is really pretty in person and started right up so I will be keeping it after all.

I believe this is an Academy Award "KK".

Edited:  Adding a photo of this watch spruced up with a new pristine dial and NOS band like the original.  Keeping the one that came with it as well.

Glad this beauty went to a good home.

Just confirming the case is stamped 14K?

No, unfortunately the only thing I can make out under the loop is that Bulova is there.  The rest has been polished down I think to remove an engraving.  You can tell something was there and I can make out were the serial # was but can not make out the numbers.  The inside has only swirls and service marks.

Well it certainly looks like solid gold, so I'm happy to agree.

Agreed - As such, it's another first for the Db and another AA variant identified

Any other Panel thoughts?

I know we've had discussions in the past as to wether or not a post 1952 (or 1954) watch can still be named as an Academy Award model. Barring an advert to the contrary, I see no reason this one can't be tagged as such.

Thank you Geoff!  I am now equally excited about the watch but the charm is super cool.

What a great find Kathy... thanks so much for sharing!  It looks way better in pictures than the ad!

Now that we have the LineBooks I think this is actually a Martha Washington "Q".  It looks like several of the Ladies AA watches went on to be Martha Washingtons, probably 1953 on per the 1953 price guide that was found.  Might be good to update this one.

Based on the date, I agree
