Watch Description

movement date symbol means this is either 1925 or 1934 I've gone for the latter but it's a guess, case serial number begins with a 9 so don't know if it's a replacement movement. I don't like adding a pic ang saying please work it out for me but I'm lost with watches of this age so I'm leaving it to you guys sorry. Please note magic hour hand is BST ;)

Dear Pastyduchy, your watch is "Unknown". The shape is very close, if not identical to the Ambassador but that watch is plain without the golden sides as your watch. Bulova had more variants of this shape with different engravings etc. See the Brunswick. The model is from 1929 as per the serial number starting with 910. On Watchophilia and also in our database  is one with case serial numbers very close to your watch. The movement is a replacement from 1925. But looking at the two examples I referred to, the 10AN seems at least to be the correct type number for this watch. A very nice watch. Congrats!

Thanks for that Alex, I had spotted the similarity with the Ambassador but the two tone finish was foxing me, i guess IDing some of these early models is nearly impossible, it's a shame so much info has been lost

Alex the movement presented in the watch is from 1936 (square) as its stamped USA and has the newer AR markings on the balance regulator. So I'm thinking a 1929 case with a 1936 movement replacement.

This is one of those 'Unknowns' that keeps popping up and it would be great to one find an advert showing this model one day.

Thanks for that, very helpful clues to dating with the long duration of the movement production, I have to say I can't see a square on it anywhere though, I can see a circle but thought it might be too shallow to be a date mark, where is the square?

Ah yes, I see now. Should have looked better at the movement picture!

Unknown, I'm sad to say that it probably always will be.......

OH,  to my eye that 'square' appears to be the rounded variety? (dating the movement to 1934)

Depending on the mods done to the movt, they were found in both Swiss and US marked versions the year production was halted. Prior to that I have only seen Swiss marked movts. Based on an FHF 324 ebauche with up to 21 jewels. The US currently has higher standards for 'US made' than the Swiss do for 'Swiss made'.

I changed the year to 1929 based on case S/N.
