Correct Bulova Box

Submitted by Hamtramck Stan on November 26, 2014 - 5:01pm

I am quite new to collecting vintage Bulovas.  I just recently purchased a 1951 Bulova Windsor and I am in search of the correct display box that it would have come with when new.  I have gone through much information on this site, including the advertisements to attempt at identifying which box would be correct.  Would this be the one?

Good question and without a confirming advert it's hard to say what boxed went with what watches. Someone else here may have a similar watch, box combination that may give us a clue, but we can at least say that the box is period to the era.

That is a early 1950's box, the velvet covered step sided boxes were mostly dropped in the 1950's for the solid plastic ones, some of which looked like a motor car 'grille'. Others had a curved top with the 'dancinglady' in 3D on the front.

Your box can be seen featured here in 1951/52.

Jaroslav - we have a pretty good tribute forum to boxes as well.

Stan  - without an advert showing your watch in a clam shell display case it's hard to be sure but I think you're on the right track........

PS - where DO you buy your paczki?

The site is GREAT! It appears that my suspicions were confirmed that the box I pictured should be correct for a '51. I know that the Windsor should have come with an expansion band, so I will have to settle with a period type as the original will be impossible to find. Thanks much for the site URL... It is really appreciated!!

By the way, it has been tough to find a bakery that replicates my mother's paczki (which I took for granted).

The watch box site is really great! It appears the one I pictured is from '51. It is greatly appreciated! As for the paczki, it' s tough to find a bakery that replicates my mom's which I took for granted.
