Nathan Hale (June 6, 1755 – September 22, 1776)

Was a soldier for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He volunteered for an intelligence-gathering mission in New York City but was captured by the British and hanged. He is probably best remembered for his purported last words before being hanged: "I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country." Hale has long been considered an American hero and, in 1985, he was officially designated the state hero of Connecticut, USA.

Nice new advert guys.

A few good one's showing various stepped side cases. Looks like we may need to check a few previously IDd models.

Isn't this fun :-)

The 15 jewel ad is priced a lot higher and a year before the others, I still think the newer, cheaper models had 7 jewels, like the Horatio.

Saw that one, left it when I read the "nationally advertised" bit, very iffy.

Correct, the first version of the Sky King had chevrons the second and more common version had the xxx pattern.

  "Chevrons"?

I see no chevrons. I do see "barred" engraving on the bezel horizontals though.

Chevrons are a flattened arrow design.

I may tend to agree with the analogy admin but We have XX patterned Cases Dated 1930 in the database and ads showing the fish patterned 'SKY KING' through 1934.

the 'SKY KING' was a new model in 1930.

The "Captain" looks to have been given a new rank in 1940!

Wether it is a downgrade or an upgrade is a bit of moot point, as plainsmen posted this November 1939 ad. Jerin noted here:   http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1940-admiral-770?page=1

that the Sears ad below comes from their 1939/1940 catalogue.

Admin, what month was the above 1939 ad from? Could make a difference to ID naming.

1939/1940 Sears ad.    The "Admiral".

Another ad for white American Clippers, that makes three.

Would LOVE to find one!

1936 ad.

1934 ad. Not too sure about the veracity of that Legion, but I like it.

Not seen a 7 jewel American Eagle before either, this looks familiar.

1934 advert for the Broker, first watch with the name.

Only ad found for a twin dialled "Physician's" watch. Also there is a new Deauville, and the bottom watch is a Senator, so that one gets a sense of dimension.

Sorry about the poor res, best I could do with it.
