Watch Description

This watch was given to my father by my mother in the early seventies. It was purchaced at Zales Jewlers at South Dekalb Mall near Atlants Ga.. The purchace price was around 2K. I know it's a Accuquartz and is 18 k gold.

I have 2 questions:

1: Does the second hand sweep or tick?

2: What would be the chance of finding extra links for the band?

Thank You in advance for any information.

Holy cow !!! What a gorgeous watch. That bracelet is to die for !  Bulova quit servicing the tuning fork movements many years ago so, if one was returned to them for service, they replaced the movement with a quartz movement.  I would guess that , when you open it , you will find an ISA1198xxx movement. I'm with bobbee, if it was mine I'd buy an Accuquartz movement and return it to original. Accuquartz movements are incredibly accurate.

One additional piece of information, that watch was made in Switerland and not in the US.

Thanks to everyone for all of the great comments concering this watch. I will have the back removed next week and take some photos to post. I'm just naturaly curious about the movement.

Lyle has it right. Even without the owner's permission, Bulova would change out the non-functioning Accuquartz movement with a new, cheap quartz movement. There are Accuquartz movements available on eBay all the time. I have bought several, both working and non-working. Search "Bulova Accuquartz". They usually go for less than $50. Be certain the day wheel has three letters. if it only has two letters, it wll be another quartz movement. The value of your watch is in its heirloom value to you and in the gold content. The dial is pretty common and nothing special. You might be able to find a complete working watch with the same dial and just have the movement switched out.

BTW, that's not an Omega symbol. It is the tuning fork symbol.

Gentelmen, I have posted 2 photos of the movement in my watch. Could anyone tell me if it is original or a replacment?

The movement says "PRESTIGE TIME COMPANY LTD-TM"

                               " SWISS PARTS, MOVEMENT CHINA"

                               "ONE 1 JEWEL ISA 1132?"

                                  "2169/6 K"

                                        "8611 VII"

An ISA movt, obviously substituted for the original accuquartz movt. Kind of a crappy thing to do without even telling the owner. The movt isn't even made by, or owned by Bulova.

Surely such an act is illegal, as you have been given inferior goods, and without explanation?

Many sellers on "The Bay" don't even know they have an Accutron with a substituted quartz movement. I have informed several sellers, usually with good results, but once in a while you get one who is really ignorant and arrogant. As I said in my previous post, restoration is pretty easy.

Oliverb, what exactly am I looking for as far as the movement model number? And also if I find one that isnt working can I have it repaired?

                                         Thanks CDW

Wow....and you say Bulova did the service in 2008 (snippet of your earlier comment below).  I'd sure think Bulova should foot the bill on this movement swap if they did it.

A great family heirloom well worth getting a correct (or better) movement.  It's also non-conforming with these details, but I'm good with a tentative Accuquartz "F" while you pursue the movement.  Case/dial/hands and that great gold band are a match.
