JP  On the left is the 1958 ad you mention above (in the Royal Clipper 1965 last watch on page), a 1956 ad (center), and another ad from 1960 on right.

Probably from the Jet Clipper line, or Sea Clipper variant?

On the opening page of the web site we have a browser option in the first line for Vintage Bulova Watch Models. Are thes the same models we are discussing for ID purposes or where do they come from? If you select that option and go to page 12 you are shown 6 watches from 1953 to 1965. The 1965 watch is this subject watch and is listed as a Royal Clipper.

JP  If your talking about the link at the end of the line below (from the main home page):

On this site you can:

This vintage Bulova watch models NEW link is just a different search interface for the watches all members have submitted for ID'ing and discussion to date.  It lists the exact same watches which can be accessed from the pulldown "search" of "Mybulova Watches", but displays them in thumbnail format listed by model name.  They've been ID'ed from ads, or crystal specs, hangtags, and other documentation- or sometimes just by the "best guess" at the time of ID'ing.  They are not necessarily what we use to rate or assign new ID's, as many of the ID's assigned to these watches are "tentative", "unconfirmed", or just plain wrong.  They are, however. very helpful for ID'ing newly submitted "unknown" watches, as we can see how similar previously submitted watches have been ID'ed.

For ID'ing the subject watch, it is helpful to look at the logic and supporting documentation of  the "1965 Royal Clipper" seen here: http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1965-royal-clipper-2238 . It shows a watch similar to the subject watch, and how we ID'ed it as Royal Clipper.  If you look at the "model ID rating" you notice four panel members have voted on the validity of the ID and it currently a strong tentative ID (two and a half ticks).  In this record, we see the ad used for the ID.  This watch has the same dial configuration as the subject watch.  While this information can be used as one of the tools in our ID'ing toolkit for subject watch ID'ing, I prefer to also go to the ad database and check for new ads which may have come in since this previous watch was ID'ed.

As we get new information, we have the ability to update these previously ID'ed watches to reflect the new ads/documentation.  We voting panel members can "update" the ID validity by changing our tick rating vote.  Any and all members can help by suggest in the comments that a new ad or information has come along which may effect the current ID.  Currently only the watch owner can change the root model ID name, so the ticks and discussion are used for us to assess the validity of the ID as now listed.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does. I was actually looking at the same watch in both pics then, but why with an ID as the Royal Clipper when it is not a 100% confirmed watch ID. I am begining to understand and will venture further into the investigation of this one through other sources.

in this instance, the previous ID as Royal Clipper was the best ID we could assign at the time.  We note it's a strong tentative ID by model ID rating system.  We also see in the discussion of the record why it is strong tentative ID. The linked watch is most likely a 1965 Royal Clipper with a different dial variant. I believe that's what the discussion and resulting panel vote tell us.  If we only published or listed watch ID's when they were "confirmed" we would have very many Unknowns, and useful information about the "tentative" Id's would not be obvious.

Yes, I see now the value of the tentative classification. My vote would be a tentative for Royal Clipper at this time as well. Thanks for the help and valuable insight. It might take me some time to get used to digging further and looking harder at what I see but it will come.
