This double date stamp on mvnts -  Is one "theory" that the movement was put together and timed over the new year holiday- therefor two date stamps?

Thats pretty much along the lines of what we've thought.  Essentially the machine stamp is the date it was produced.  They were more than likely movements left over from the previous year that were then hand stamped with the correct year, next to the machine one and then placed into the current year model.

So you would go by the hand stamp for the year?

Yeah the hand stamp is the one that you pretty much go for.  If you think about it logically it's really the only answer.  You go with the latest stamp.

The case serial number indicates 1931.

hmm, it takes an 'UNKNOWN' 1931 to bring Nova out of hiding.

Great Watch eh?

40mm long, the longest I have from this era....anyone have an ideas of what it may be?

I don't know what it is, but I think it is lovely.  Have you ever before seen a dial that shows that much of the 6 but still not all of it?

And I see only one other example of the 9 AF movement--also an "unknown" from the early '30s.
