Inside case back reads: Bulova, 14K Gold Filled, American Standard
Movement symbol indicates 1927, but case engraving and lack of patent information indicates 1926. Maybe the movement was replaced, or maybe year is like model year on cars?
It is not dual stamped.
The case is hinged. I think the patent date is relevent to indicating that the case is 1926. I am thinking in terms of the 1927 patent date that often appears. I would think that a 1927 production would include this number.
So are we dating models in the database by the date of the case or the date of the movement? It usually will not matter but for this watch...

We are using the movement symbol for the maufacturing year. We assume the movement came with the case, until proven otherwise. The only reason we are having this conversation now is because you listed the manufacture date as 1926 with a square date symbol that equals 1927. We use ads to verify watch names.
The patent date does not normally get involved in dating. The patent date can be used to show made in 1924 or after. Same for August 1927 or after until approx 1931 when patent information was not applicable
The Patent date stamped on the inner Caseback has no bearing on the Watches Year of manufacture as it references the dust shield.
....of coarse it would be difficult to justify a 1927 Patent stamped on a Watch dated 1925 but I have seen 1924 Patents on 1930's Watches, particularly the Ladies models.
Q for admin: Would the 1924 Patent reference the full inner Caseback dust shield and the 1927 Patent reference the Circular dust shield perhaps?
I don't see any hinges on your watch, nor do you show a movement cover. I don't see provisions to mount the movement cover described in the 1924, nor the 1927 patent.
We had copies of both patents in the Bulova Catalogs, they are not there now!
I see your reasoning in dating the watch to 1927 if it had the PAT.JAN.11.1927 stamp.

No problem on hinges, if you say it has hinges, it has hinges. I only commented on what I didn't see. Does it have a dust cover, or a provision to mount & retain a dust cover?
I have no problem with this being a 1927 Treasurer as evidenced by case design & bezel engraving & 1927 movement. The back case engraving should not even be part of the ID.
No dust cover and I don't think it probably ever had one.
On offense intended with any of my comments...I was merely trying to involve all the clues to clarify the year of manufacture and the practices of Bulova at the time of manufacture.
As you say Wayne: "The only reason we are having this conversation now is because you listed the manufacture date as 1926 with a square date symbol that equals 1927."
Although I will note that in the additional information field, I made the production date of movement and my reason for putting it in as 1926 related to the engraving very clear.
I will change it to 1927 consistent with the practices of this forum...

No problem, we are all learning along with you. You have my 3 star vote. Dust cover is another clue as to why NO PAT date on case. The 1925 & 1926 Bulova watches are a real challenge to collect. I have a 1925 President in the data base that has a 9AT 15 jewel movement & the ad calls for 17 jewels. It also does not have a dust cover or hinges but it has the 1924 patent...go figger.
By the way welcome aboard!
