Bulova 1953 Clifton

Nova, at this point in time and with the ads we now have, I would concour with that idea.

Case looks like a match to the Ardsley. Notice the position, shape and follow thru of the lugs. Sure smells like an Ardsley to me.

Actually, it appears that the fancy diamond dial earns this one it's own name, i.e, the Clifton.

This is an excerpt from a Bulova marketing brochure sent to jewelers.  It is undated, but all the watches are from the early-to-mid-1950s (Seabee, Winchester, Watertite, Warwick, Clipper, Commodore, Squardron, Director, etc.).

At first, I was thinking Generic replacement dial, non-conforming compared to what we usually see,  but the Diamonds tested real, and that  what we see on all Bulova factory dials...

Updated October 29, 2012-New newspaper ad from Torrance Herald December 1953 confirms Lisa's ad above, showing what looks like a black dial.

Hi,

I just picked up a '53 Clifton on eBay.  I've been wanting a white gold vintage Bulova, saw this, and came to find that it's apprently a rare bird.

Anyway, the crystal referenced in the post above, CMX345-2F, is listed as a quadranted crystal but the Clifon example above, the one I got, and another I was able to find on the Google don't seem to have a quadranted crystal.  Nor do the advert/catalog postings here in the thread.

Can anyone confirm the crystal it should have or, at least, if the dimensions of the CMX345-2F are correct if I should need a new crystal when it arrives?  Also, the other example I found on Google is sporting an 18mm strap and it doesn't appear to have been trimmed or forced between the lugs.  

I'll be sure to add it to the database when it arrives (and I get a proper black strap on it).

EDIT: I see now in the pics of the Clifton in this thread that the crystal is faceted.  I didn't notice the doubling of the vertical indicators at the sub-second initially and the slight "smearing" of the diamond indices.  So it is a faceted, quadrant crystal...can anyone verify that in fact the CMX345-2F is proper?  I also see references to an SUC RMS 140-45 D crystal at 22.3 x 19.3 for the Ardsley which appears to be the same case.
