Watch Description

I was recently given this watch by my grandmother. She found it  while cleaning out  a men's dressing cabinet belonging to my great-grandfather. My research says that the L9 emprinted on the back would date the watch to 1959. I am interested in information on this watch as a family airloom.  The back case number is D500885. My research also leads me to believe that I am not qualified to take the back case off to document the movement number. Any help with identification would be greatly appreciated.

Lookin like a Clipper to ne but go search the vintage ads on site from 1958 to 1960 ans see what you van find. In the foroum section you can find additional ads in the information sharing foroums.

We have a few adverts that match the design and description.

bingo...Yankee Clipper....great family heirloom pioneerkbs....maybe if/when you get it serviced you can report back with the movement model.  Don't know where the circle entry for movement symbol came from?

You folks are amazing!! I looked for about 4 hours last weekend to find a similar model to go off of, but had marginal luck. Give it a few hours, and you found an excellent lead. I'm currently looking for a "skilled" jewler to have it serviced. Once I locate one a reasonable distance from my home, I'll definately provide an update. Thank you for taking to time help me in this search.

Yep.. Yankee.. i've had obe of these... PM me if you can't find a good watchmaker (i'm not a big fan of jewery stores, most times they send stuff out to a watchmaker) I'll hook you up with my guy. Very good and reasonable prices. I send him everything.

I just dropped my Yankee Clipper off at Bulova dealer to be serviced. The self-winding feature finally gave out last week. I'm considering changing the band from metal to leather. Do you think that is a good idea?

Total personal preference. One some of my vintage watches I like the look of straps as opposed to a band. I'd go with a strap on this one.....
