1965 Jet Clipper "J" Nice linen "pizza dial" with luminous hands and dots at indices on gold perimeter detail ring. Caseback dated M5, the movement is M4. Overall pretty nice with a few scratches on crystal that I will be addressing shortly. Love the engraving on this one as well as all the face design elements; lots going on here visually. Running and keeping time.
It is possible that the 'J' became a different watch by 1965, when most calendar models were Date Kings. The 1964 pricelist has the yellow gold J at $69.95, and it was a different design with calendar. Here are some early 60's ads:
Yours is a pretty neat design; the only other ad I found shows no variant, so J for this one will work for me.
If ads show it with a calendar pre-1965, I agree. In 1965 the calendar model JC "J" appears to be discontinued to focus the date function on the Date King line. Jet Clipper "J" lost the date function and gained a different case and dial as well as engraving. Nice detective work, Ken.
Here is another ad dated 1965 showing the JC "J" with engraving and without calendar feature. There are currently only 2 examples of this (subject watch) design in the Db. One is dated 1965, and the other 1968.
Date King model name seems to appear in 1964, when date window Jet Clipper "J" disappears
