I recently inherited my Dad’s watch that he bought new when he was 18 years old. I love your site but was unable to confirm this watches information as I did not come across another watch identicle to it. The “L3” on the back is worn at the top so it may be a L5”.

Model is a match to the Ultimatic, as seen here. Congratulations on a nice heirloom watch.

Thanks much for the information!  I’m excited to see if you all agree on the year too.

Agreed on Ultimatic. It's a beauty and a model not often encountered. I love heirloom watches. Can you provide a photo of the date code that is a little more clear to verify the date?

Hope this helps but as I mentioned previously, the top is quite worn.

It looks more like 5 to me.

Based on your photo and comparing it to watches I have that are 1953 and 1955, It looks more to me like a 3, which doesn't mean much. The only way to tell for sure would be to open it up and see what the date code is on the movement.

Looks like a 3 as well to me, but could also be a 0 for 1950. However based on the 1953 advert above I'd also ID as an Bulova Ultimatic
