Watch Description

Purchased at an antique store for the marginal price. Tagged with "runs" on the ticket.

I looked thw watch up on this web site and it appears indentical to the 1943 President pic posted. I did not look at other decades, just 40s mainly.

Any help identifying the watch is greatly appreciated.

Watch runs very fast, in 5 hours it is about 50 mins ahead, so about 10 minutes per hour.

I replaced the aftermarket gold metal band with an aftermarket brown leather.

I love this watch. Will be looking into getting it worked on soon. One watch repairman told me he thought the problem was with the "balancer" if that makes any sense?

Since the watch has beeb opened, the crystal pooped off (and I put it back on). Need get that looked at as well.

Thanks

Scott Allen Reid

thanks for that information.

The serial # ENDS in an 8, for sure and BEGINS in a "7" or a "2" (see below)

I cannot see the top part of the 7, but def can see it is a / (top part of the 7 may have wore off?) and a "2" may come before this:

so case serial is either

799448

OR

2799448  (there may be a faint "2" as the 1st #)

Did you mean the last # or the first # would determine the watch model year? I have seen other posts, it looks like year may be the 1st # (so mine is a 1942 or 1947)

STAMPED ON BACK

Bulova 10k Gold Filled

QUESTION

My watch is stamped Bulova 10k Gold FILLED (just noticed this, it is light but can be seen).

I saw on a 1947 model on this site stamped, Gold PLATED.

is there a difference between Gold FILLED and Gold PLATED and does the difference help to determine the year OR model "A" or "E" or whatever.

thanks to everyone for the help. LOVE this watch!

Plated designates a process where gold is layered on a base metal by an electrochemical process. Gold filled is a process where gold is mechanically wrapped around a sheet of base metal using pressure. Filled has a greater gold content and is generally more durable. Filled or plated does not determine the production year or variant letter.

I'm suggesting that serial numbers of the era had seven digits and that the leading number 2 designates 1942. Can you please verify the date code found on the movement using this aide?

Where you able to confirm if the first number is a 2 or a 7?

Also can you confirm the movement date code is a square?

A square would put ut a 1946, thus the case serial could start with a 7 for 1947.
