Bobbee can you show the section just above the top and bottom of the bezel. Trying to see if the advert shows the vertical bars.
Thanks

Here is a 1932 advert with the XX engraving, and the top and bottom bezels lack the vertical bars.

The engraving is not very clear, admittedly, but it is clear enough to see the engraved areas on the band also are X's  and not "fish", and definitely no barred shading on the horizontals.

Proof positive for the  "XX" Sky King, I should think.   Third time's the charm!

The two pics above are all I have, both are the same ad.
Nova mentions in another Sky King thread that all the XX cases in the DB are post 1931, also others are either guessed at dates, or in the case of this one, mis-dated.
All fish engraved SK's in the DB are pre 1931.

Outstanding, so we FINALLY have evidence that indicates that a Sky King version was in fact released without the top and bottom vertical bands. I remember a number of members stating that they weren't a SK if they didn't have the top and bottom bands. Now we have another old myth busted.

I'd say that all indications point to this style of case being used in later models (31/32)

I knew an advert would surface one day.

Thanks Bobbee for posting!

So, if I'm a Mythbuster, do I have to shave my head, wear a beret and grow a walrus moustache?  :^)
