Watch Description

I am pretty sure this is a Dictator model.

Inside of case back reads:

Pat. June 10, 1924
Bulova
14K Gold Filled
New York

Movement is a running 17 Jewel 8AN movement

I dated this to 1928 based on the case serial number and the movement is a 1927 date based on the square date code.

All of the hands are replacements that are incorrect and when I send this out for service I plan to get the dial refinished to orignal with lume and add a pair of the cathedral styled luminescent hands to go with it.

I'm tentative Dictator. The case looks too thick, but everything else points the it being a Dictator.

Something to keep in mind with the vintage ads is that the "Federal Truth in Advertising Act" wasn't passed until 1966.

So exaggerations to help promote products or perceptions were very common.

While this example doesn't have the extreme curve that the other advert shows, the lugs, jewel count and case style look to be a good match.

         Some comparisons from the database.

Fifthavenuerestorations posted this side-on pic of a Dictator sans crystal.

Daca's watch with crystal.  A match, in my eyes.

EDIT:- Sorry Dave, meant to say, very nice watch.

BTW, does the crystal curve, or is it flat?

Do you have the crystal and case dimensions?

The case is 23.15mm x 31.15mm

and

the crystal is 17.32mm x 24.92mm with a curve top to bottom but flat side to side.

Personally, I like the dial.  I would go back to cathedral hands however.  Nice watch BTW.

Dictator. I always thought the name a bit odd given the negative connotations.

I had assumed that Charlie Chaplin had filmed "The Dictator" about this time but turns out that was filmed in 1940.

Now I really wonder what the inspiration for this name was.
