Went to the Minneapolis Hennepin Co Library today. Looked at and took pics of all theri Montgomery Wards fom about 1938-1960. Spoegels from aboit 1950-56.... library closed and i had about 5 or 6 more Spiegels fom about 57-59.
Lots of ads... maybe one suprise or two but not many.... also I took a picture of the cover of each catalog so we know which ad came from which catalog. Maybe we can cut down on some reresearching the same places over and over.
Dunno when I'll be able to get them downloaded. What fun! Seriously it was like treasure hunting!
That's great Plains. It is like treasure hunting, and I think we may find that many folks have a major library near them which will have these older hard copy available. Unfortunately Hawaii isn't one of these, as I've tried. I do have 80 degree year round weather and fantastic beaches only minutes away though... I shoulda decided to collect sand rather than vintage Bulova waches..but no!
Looking forward to your downloads.
Here's a for instance! 1942 I believe hard to get everything situated on my phone... but I think this is 42-43 fall winter
Check this OUT! That blocky numbered Air Warden looks to be the "Watertite".
Oh and the quality I have is WAAAY better. Just had to dumb it down for the 150kb limit...
Check out the BOMBARDIER!! (might have never sold it looks like) War name for the Brewster/Attorney
This was from 43-44 Mont. Wards Fall/Winter issue.. looks like they stopped selling them as the ad says NOT AVAILABLE on accross all the watches. And the next year there were no watches at all in the 1945 catalog.
Loads of fun, Plains! Thanks for the continued hunting.
I can't believe there's another model of the Attorney, Brewster, Gallahad, Emperor, Jefferson ilk. Now we have the Bombadier to add to the mix. It's funny how new ads sometimes clarify, sometimes muddy the waters further (e.g., the Duo-Wind vs Thayer debate).
I just picked up a Watertite that matches that ad pretty well, including the gray leather Bulova-signed strap.
