Joseph Bulova School Of Watchmaking Training Manual #7

Submitted by JP on November 20, 2012 - 7:33pm

I now am the proud owner of a training manual from the actual bulova school. This manual uses a 10AK movement for all of the training and is very complete.  I am willing to share this great book with anyone who is a watch maker or wants to try to become one or just wants to be able to do some of the simple things better.

If you are interested, PM me. There is no charge for a copy. This book will no doubt help some of us to become better at what we do. This book is 316 pages long and will take some time for me to scan so I will not be able to send any copies until that is completed. The book will be in PDF format.

I'll take one!  Thanks JP  Don't hurry on the scan on my account.  Heck, I haven't taken the time to look at lots of stuff I've received lately...but some rainy day....I will.

Glad to oblige my friend. This thing is fascinating and very informative. I can't wait to get the rest of the tools I will need to start doing some of the training lessons. I have a good staking tool and a master watchmaker to teach me. It will probably take me a couple of days at least to scan 300+ pages but it will get done.

We are trying to "pay" a watchmaker to teach a couple sessions at our NAWCC Chapter meetings...and it's next to impossible to find someone on Oahu. Something like basic watch repair for beginners etc...  We can't afford to bring someone from NAWCC national, and I sure can't do it.  I "taught" a dial and hand changing class last month, and i took a bunch of 7-9 linge ladies Bulova movements for us to work on in class. I shoulda taken some wind up alarm clocks for use. LOL   They were sooooo small, and almost everyone in the class, including me, were beginners at best.  Now I got a dozzen broken ladies Bulova movements - and they were all from old ones-1924 thru 1933.  The students thought a lunacy committee should be appointed.  We buchered them movements.

Study up on that manual, and maybe we'll offer you a couple hundred bucks honorarium to do a workshop for us.  You'd have to spend thousands to get here, but hay- it's Hawaii.
There's a reason they call it an honorarium.

HMMMMMM!!!  Now that's a thought. I have had about a dozen ladies bulova watches and have had great success in repairing them. Every thing from replacing balance and hairspring to replacing main springs and barrel arbors and center wheels and escapement wheels. I don't consider my self a real watch maker and won't until I can replace bad balance staffs and repair/install hair springs. Just moving along as a self taught watch repairman.

Your name has been added to the list and when I get the time to scan the manual I will see that you get a copy.

I have all of your names down to receive a copy of the training manual and as soon as I can find the time, I will scan and send to all of you. It's been very busy just now with 4 grand kids to shop for and 2 that live about 30 minutes away and two that live up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. That plus the watches I am trying to finish up before christmas has creaated little time for scanning.

Hi Andy, I have not yet finished scanning the book but will add you to the list of people who want a copy. Send me your email addy and when I have finished it I will send you a copy. There are 316 pages and I am on page 78, so you can see it is very slow going. Scanning takes quite a while as it must be done by hand, no auto feed, and I work on it when I can find the time. I have about 30 watches I am trying to get up and running and that too is very time consuming. I also just acquired about 17,000 watch parts and 3,000 crystals and I don't even know yet how many movements and watch hands that have to be sorted and cataloged.

Hi, if this is still available I would appreciate a copy.

No problem JustGary. I am on page number 187 of the 316 pages so it will still be awhile for me to finish it. It is very slow and labor intensive. One page at a time since I don't have autofeed on my scanner.
