How to post for an ID

Submitted by Heather.White on August 12, 2017 - 2:18pm

Hi there, I'm a new member. I joined because I'd like to get an ID on an old Bulova watch I have, though when I went to the area to add my watch for identification, the manufacturer year and the movement model were required...If I knew the year, I probably wouldn't be asking for the ID lol! There is no alpha-numeric date code on the back case, which I guess means it is pre-1950 according to your resources (though honestly, in looking through the styles of watches in the catalog ads, I was pretty convinced it's from the 1960s). Anyway, both the manufacturer year and the movement model seem to be pieces of info I'll find on the inside of the watch.....problem is, I can't open it. There's a small lip/ledge, but I've had no luck. I don't want to have to take it somewhere to be opened if I don't have to. Is there any way I can post my watch for ID without those pieces of information?

Thanks!

~Heather

Heather, oyu can still post the watch without these details. For the year just put an estimation in, as the planel will update this once we finish with the review process. With regards to information about the inside of the back, either leave those blank or place a '-' instead.

Depending on what model your watch is we may be able to identify it pretty easily, but may require information from the inside to help confirm or narrow down the the model.

Another option is to search through both the full and part adverts we have on site to see if you can find a match.

Thanks!

I searched through the pictures people have posted of all the bulova models (and there are quite a lot!) and I think I'm wrong about guessing it's from the 60s....it looks pretty similar to models from the 40s, like the Juliana. But still, nothing was an exact parallel.

I ended up going to a watchmaker to get the back taken off...and to my surprise, there is no date code symbol on the inside movement! And like I mentioned before, there is no alpha-numeric date code on the back case. The movement model seems to read 68K or 6BK, which is engraved inside a small box. Other info on there says 17 jewels, unadjusted, and swiss 48. But definately no date code symbol. I'll add the photos I have taken with my phone and wait for it to be reviewed. Hope they aren't too fuzzy.

Thanks again!

I realize now that "48" below Swiss is the date code symbol! I was looking for a shape, and hadn't noticed that 1946-1949 date code symbols are usually the year number.
