Help needed with watch crystal.

Submitted by airborne on May 29, 2013 - 7:26am

Dear Bulova friends

I have this watch and need a new watch crystal. I don't know the model

because it hasn't any numbers on the case. maybe somebody recognize it.

I think its from about 1949/50

Kind regards

Your best to measure the bezel insert and post the values here. That would probably help with identifying the correct crystal.

21.6 x 17.5

Actually, the case looks like it is a Duro or Sutton case...No sub-seconds dial, probably a 6 series movement...Something screams Frankenbully to me on this one, so don't buy that crystal just yet.

Is the case stamped Bulova?

The  GS  MX 324-13 is for the Rite Angle model  and the CMC 325 is all wrong for the shape of the case regardless of what movement and dial are in it.

Going by measurements alone  look at GS CMX 326-34 , 35 , 35F, 35G or 36

If the measurements you gave me are correct, the MX 324-13 is correct.

Well , it would be " close enough for city work" if you didn't account for the curve of the case . The MX 324-13 curves in the other direction, ie . top to bottom. The case in question curves from side to side.

Just t clarify the CMC325 is CUSHION shape not Rectangular.

The case shown is not a Bulova. It is a Sutton, duro or 1d or similar. I agree fully with old ticker that this is a frankenbully. Have seem a number of these on ebay recently. it is not a UU although made to mimick it.

It is likely a  CMX326-35 you need 21.6 x 17.6....maybe

The shelf of the 'UU' Bezel is flat, the original glass having a gable peak in the center.

So the GS catalogue listing is incorrect?

i'd certainly say your is :) all CMC are cushion.

If this was a UU you are correct about the original crystal I think. Had quite a few of them. But this is not a Bulova case, that i'm almost certain of but only yhe original thread poster can clarify. sutton, 1d or duro I bet

Two of my GS catalogues have the cmc325 as fitting Waltham and Elgin only.

Yes, in this case I think the catalog is incorrect.  The shelf , would appear to have a slight curve from side to side and may not be a " case " requirement as much as an appearance one.  Flat top is what one manufacturer shows. Single gable most others.

So Airborne, can you confirm if the case is indeed a Bulova as this would certainly help with identifiying the most suitable crystal.

The back off the case is stainless steel.
I have compared the case with the His Excellency UU 1949.
And they seems to be identical.

Definately not a Bulova. All after market cases i have seen like this have stainless. The UU has GF without fail. What does the inside say and what movement is this?

No doubt that it is a aftermarket case if it has a stainless back, as Gary said, all His Excellencys had Gold Filled bezels & backs.

From all of the the Duro, ID, Sutton & other aftremarket look alike cases that I have or have come across, most of the glass is flat with no curvature to the bezel/crystal groove, and usually I end up making one to fit because very few are listed in the crystal catalogs.

Yep, the 'UU' will have a Gold Caseback.

got the Case and the glass wrong, talk about having a bad day.
